There is no toilet in the wild

“What would you do if  you want to defecate in the Mountain?” asked a female friend. The question has always been the first question that asked  most when I heard the word “go to camp on the mountain”.

Actually, defecate or, should we called it poop instead is a very natural activities that all humans being do throughout his/her life, it won’t make such a big trouble if you have to do that on your home or office, when you’re able to find out where is the nearest safe toilet, but, if you have to do it on the mountain, you’ll face some awkward moment if you don’t do it properly (or if you don’t know the trick yet).

At my first mountain climb event, I do lazy and trying to avoid from poop at the outdoor, but, since I start to go to camping often, I realize, that is a hard stuff to do. If you only go for some small trip or short duration camp, let’s say 2d 1n or 3d 2n, maybe you still can manage to not poop at the outdoor by consuming some anti diare drugs, but when you do some long trip, maybe six or seven days, trying to push back your feces to your colon and hold it as much as possible will be impossible.
So rather than keeping trash in my stomach, I try to learn, what we have to do to make it a fun activity.
First, we have to underline something that matter most, the human waste can affect water quality and pose a health risk to others. Bury it 6-8 inches deep and at least 200 feet from the water source. Properly buried waste will decompose naturally, some equipment that you’ve used to clean your body will have to buried well too, for this purposes, you have to carry on some hard equipment that you can use to dig a proper hole such as machete or mini shovel.

Second, you’ll never know what creature or animal that will shown up when you’re in the middle of your “fun” activity LOL. So the best way is you’ got to ask your friend to accompany you, to watch out for all probability, such as keeping eye from dangerous animal or maybe just someone who walk walk across your place, just to avoid awkward or embarrassing moment.
Third, make sure you found a suitable place, some hidden space where no one would across because that’s not a part of the track and far away from water source. Imagine if you poop in front of the people who walk across and all of them stare at you with some disgusting look, and you can’t defecate at the animal nest (e.g: ant), or the side of the hill, that will make you stand on a dangerous position. ( until now, i still laugh whe i do remember when my friends poop at the hollow dead tree, his private parts got bitten by few dozens of big red ant )
You can try to poop on the back of the mountain, facing to the valley or river, maybe you’ll find some interesting moment or panoramic that can make you cozy and comfortable, instead of you want to finish that job as fast as possible, you may would relax and forgot what actually you’ve done.
At the end, don’t EVER trying to not obey that rules that I describe, maybe it looks trivial, but if a lot of people do poop at the water source, the rest of them will wont have water to drink, if some people trying to poop on the track, the rest will step on it and make it such a disgusting stuff. It is not good when you go to the mountain to finding a good panoramic and relax from your stressful work and the only thing you’ve got is a dirty place?
Stay trying to keep our environment clean and do not become the people who call himself nature lovers, but all of they act may actually harmful the nature.
